Greene County High School musicians will headline a program at Thomas Jefferson Gardens on Sunday, April 24 at 4 pm. The public is invited to the event, a tribute to the late Wallace Teagarden, a Greene County native, who spurred interest in Thomas Jefferson, first with a life-sized statue and later with funding for the gardens.

In addition to music, a featured speaker will be Tom Polking, former Jefferson attorney, who worked with Teagarden to develop the gardens and bring to life his interests in Jefferson. Polking is a frequent speaker about Jefferson, third President of the United States, and will weave together the two unique individuals who impacted the community of Jefferson.

Gavin Vander Linden will recite the Preamble of the US Constitution as Teagarden did annually during Memorial Day services at Pleasant Hill Church in rural Jefferson.

Musicians from Greene County High School will present vocal and instrumental selections from contest performances. Instructors Dave Heupel and Wes Anderson plan for soloists and a brass ensemble and a saxophone ensemble to perform.

The performers will be positioned in the Rotary-built pavilion in Thomas Jefferson Gardens. Some seating will be provided but lawn chairs are also welcomed. Brownies topped with ice cream, a favorite cold treat of Thomas Jefferson, will be served while supplies last. Rain location if needed is the Greene County Historical Museum.
